Designing Sound with AI: The Art of Music Prompting

I’ve been experimenting with how to turn musical influences into AI-ready prompts. Instead of just naming bands or albums, I break down the sound — the instruments, rhythms, textures, and moods — and translate them into short, vivid descriptions. The result is part producer’s note, part poem: clear enough for the AI to follow, but still human and evocative. This is where I share those experiments and test how far the prompts can go.

Using AI for music, images, video and creative inspiration

Every song paints pictures in the mind— and to accompany the new song A New Kind of Feeling, I wanted those pictures to move and embody the spirit and sense of the song. Not just a static album cover, not just abstract footage. I wanted the visuals to grow and shift with the music, breathing in sync with the lyrics.

New AI-Co-Produced Music and Video Honoring Past Artists

Allen Ginsberg, the incredible Beat poet of the 1950s - 1990s had mentioned that he found the Romantic poet William Blake a muse and inspiration. This new song, "Ginsberg Talked To Blake" uses this theme as an analog for my long-time friendship with poet and writer, J.C. Coyle, based in Los Angeles, CA. His poetry and writing has always been a personal inspiration for me, and a great metaphor for my relationship with J.C.

Using Suno.ai, ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Krea.ai, Midjourney.com, Adobe Premiere and Garageband, I created this new music and accompanying video. Enjoy.
